Can I run rules du jour on Activeperl?
IOW, I think my question is : Is there any way I can get bash to
operate on Activeperl?
I have bash available on Cygwin on this machine, but it seems like the
Cygwin bash automatically prepends the different directories with
"cygdrive", and none of my Spamassassin files are under the Cygwin
directory, they're under the Perl directory. So, for instance it can't
lint the cf's it downloads.
I'm trying to use a perl [script? module? program?], but it seems to
only count over a certain number of spaces at the beginning of cf
files, so it's only good for bigevil.
TIA,
grant

Grant,
While I haven't tested it, I see no reason it couldn't run under cygwin
with a bit of tweaking.
Just to cover all the bases: cygwin has its own port of perl (it may or
may not be installed on your system), which AFAIK is completely
independant of ActivePerl. cygdrive/* is cygwin's shoehorning of
windows drive letters into the unix file system. Your C: drive is at
/cygdrive/c/ so your C:\perl is at /cygdrive/c/perl/. The spamassassin
perl script has its interpreter set to /usr/bin/perl, which is probably
calling the cygwin interpreter, not the activestate one.
To solve your problem you could try:
a) uninstalling the cygwin interpreter using setup.exe and making a
symbolic link from /cygdrive/c/perl/bin/perl.exe (or whatever) to
/usr/bin/perl.
b) Changing all the paths in the config to the cygdrive equivalent.
Might need to change "spamassassin --lint" to something like "perl -T -w
<path to spamassassin> --lint".
c) re-install SpamAssassin into the cygwin root directory structure so
when in the cygwin environment, all paths appear to be standard unix
paths.
I'll be interested to hear how this turns out.
Anyone else have any other thoughts?
