I got around to comparing those files and there is nothing unusual about fonts
and style activities that applies to this situation.

If there is a material difference it must be elsewhere in the User Profile
folder.

I an unable to dig deeper. If this situations recurs, perhaps we can figure
out something immediately after it is noticed.

Thanks for all of your work.

I'm going to resolve this as irreproducible. The issue will remain here and,
if there is more evidence or it arises again, we can make another attempt.

Win 7 74-bit

When a backspace is clicked successive input characters change to the Times New
Roman, no change in font size. Problem has been verified for Arial (12).

I tried getting resolution from this on the AOO forum "Backspace causes a
change in the font",
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=81329, without total
success. The same condition occurs on two separate computers (laptop and
desktop) and if the question responder is accurate, both computers have a
corrupted something that produces the same end result.

If you find that on your computers (hopefully Window machines) the issue does
not occur, could you provide explicit direction. If the condition does occur
then I view it as important (HMI) but not critical.

Really sorry to bother you on something that may be my fault.

thanks

Please provide a little more about the attachment.

Is this the result of the defect you are reporting?

Or is it a file in which, if we backspace in a particular place, we will see
the undesirable effect?

We need a starting point and instructions on the actions (where was the cursor,
what was the font setting where the cursor was last used), where to put the
cursor, how many backspaces to type, then what to enter to see the effect, etc.

Or anything else so we can attempt to reproduced what happens for you. Then we
can examine things more closely to understand what the underlying cause is.

Thanks

I agree that it is useful to avoid having to muck with the User Profile,
especially if it is likely not the source of the problem.

A suggestion: Don't delete the user profile. Rename the folder with your
profile. On Windows, it will be the folder "user" on path
"...\OpenOffice\4\user". Then AOO will automatically generate a new default
one.

Don't make any modifications to the new profile.

See if you can replicate the problem with a new file. Or a copy of one that is
already a problem. Just don't save over any of your existing ones.

If you can reproduce the problem with the generated default profile, you can
delete the generated one and rename your previous one back for continued use.

If the problem disappears with the generated profile, sit tight and we can
check some things to see what the difference is. That will take some careful
forensic work that we can guide you through.

Does not happen in Linux-32 4.1.2 version. Font remains as Arial after repeated
backspaces and re-entries.

The entire profile folder is rather large, so let's work in small parts.

In your old, renamed user folio, there is a file named
registrymodifications.xcu. Rename that one to something like
original-registrymodifications.xcu

If you can, put that and the one in your new profile together in a Zip and
upload the Zip.

After that is examined, we'll see what else needs to be looked into.

Hold onto the old profile. We may need to dig into some of the folder there
later. The easy examination of the .xcu files is useful to do first.

Well, I think we have a go. I just set '/../user' to something else and started
up AOO. During initiation I ported over the 4.1.2 settings and opened the
document. No problem.

Then I exited the document and updated my dictionary. No problem.

Then I exited and restarted AOO and opened my document. No problem.

So, your fix worked. Do you want to see my profile? And in what format do you
want it uploaded?

And to all, thanks. You have really helped.

It appears that in any file, in any place, a backspace causes a change from the
existing Font to Times New Roman (TNR). In the file I uploaded the default
paragraph setting (normal) uses Arial. In
<https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=81329#p375748> the
default font is Courier New.

1: A backspace causes a change in font in any file to Times New Roman. The Font
size shown remains the same as the original font size shown, but the actual
font size appears to be reduced to 10 (I use 12). The changes occur from the
point of the backspace forward and do not affect prior text.

2: The changed file given in the forum changes the symptom not the cause. To
wit, what has been done is to impose a global change of font (ctl-A, select
Font and Size). All this does is to force the same font for all text. The
required font in this file is Courier New. But, in the new file a backspace
causes the same issue.

3: The file generated in (2) above had already been generated by me in order to
produce the desired file with the desired format. Nothing new was presented
from someone else doing the same thing.

I know that this is a defect. What remains is to locate the cause. Is it
something local to my use that I must solve, or is it something in AOO which I
am unable to solve. I don't know and need guidance.

I might add that this aberration is new. Prior to 15 Jan 2016 it had not been
observed. That doesn't mean it wasn't there (I typically use Times New Roman).
Changing the default font to be something other than Times New Roman made the
defect observable.

On a related note, when I searched the bug reports prior to submitting this bug
I noticed that there were one or two other bugs about the change in size of the
Times New Roman font size. I believe that the AOO solution was to say that
there was no issue. I believe that this is incorrect and may need to be
readdressed.

I hope that this answers your (2) questions. And I truly hope for some
guidance. One suggestion in the forum is to delete and selectively reintroduce
my AOO profile, and thereby discover what in the AOO environment causes the
fault. I shudder to think that I will have to do this but, if I have to I have
to. This will probably take several hours and I'd like to avoid it if I can.

A follow-up.

I checked on the Forums. Did you download the last file here,
