Applying in memory Schema

Is it possible to apply an XML schema which is stored in memory? The
setExternalSchemaLocation API doesn't seem to support this. Is there
any other way?

(FWIW, the schema is stored in a database, so it would be best not to
have to write it out to a file in order to apply it).
