newbie : using surefire from a command line

hi,

I'm using "maven ant tasks" so have access to surefire though want to 
use it outside of maven.

Is there a simple guide on how to use 
org.apache.maven.surefire.booter.SurefireBooter somewhere?

It looks like the main() takes a config file, but i can't find a 
reference to it's format

all help gratefully received :-)
