DOMParser validation question

I tried to set the following features to true to turn on the validation of
org.apache.xerces.parsers.DOMParser

http://xml.org/sax/features/validation
http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema

It failed to validate.  Is there any other thing I need to do to turn on the
validation or is this a bug?
