First-pass at MacOS X dylib binary xerces-c
I have a binary distribution tarball of
Xerces-C++ for MacOS X available for comments
and hopefully some testing.
This is just a UNIX-style binary package
made via the packageBinaries.pl script.
http://www.machotshot.com/Goodies/xerces_c_packages.php4
I have not done much testing with it yet
and would welcome any feedback.
Also, how might I go about getting submitting
the modifications to packageBinaries.pl for
commit consideration?
Thanks,
Chris Corbell

Chris,
I cleaned up your changes to packageBinaries for Mac OS X a bit, and
committed them just now. Will you help to verify this change? Changes are in
CVS.
James.

Chris,
Thanks for these notes. A couple of questions:
Build notes:
(1) Did you see the Mac OS (command line) build instructions currently
on the web site, and do you have any patches to them?
(2) I see that you suggested using tar to extract the sources. Tar on OS
X actually has some problems in dealing with lont paths, so I'd recommend
gnutar for this operation. Also, you should be able to combine the tar and
gz extractions with -xzf.
Package Binaries:
(I'd very much like to get these worked into a patch that will cause
packagebinaries to work for OS X--in addition to the platforms it already
works with!)
(3) Can you do a mod such that the choice of make tool is a variable set
once? And then set this as make for OS X and gmake otherwise?
(4) PackageBinaries is getting a little hairy in terms of its simplistic
checking for file extensions. Maybe an array of extensions to check for, and
a loop to to that? Or a mapping from platform to extension?
(5) Would you like to supply your packagebinaries changes (perhaps with
the changes above) in terms of a patch that I can apply?
My goal is to get package binaries fixed first so that it's easy to submit
binaries of the Mac OS X build. From there, we could also look into a
further mod to additionally support pbxbuild to do the framework build.
If you've got patches to submit, I'd be happy to take them.
Thanks again!
James.
