[jira] Created: (FOR-707) Document i18n features of Forrest

Document i18n features of Forrest
---------------------------------

         Key: FOR-707
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FOR-707
     Project: Forrest
        Type: Task
    Reporter: Ross Gardler
    Priority: Critical
     Fix For: 0.8-dev

There is next to no documentation about i18n, just a pretty poor FAQ entry that points at an issue that has now been closed.

Cheche wrote a blog entry on his work:

http://casa.che-che.com/blog/2005/05/10/internalization-a-site-using-forrest-07-dev/

We could, at the very least use the locationmap to pull this content into our site [OT: I wonder if this could be a way to generate more documentation?)

Thomas, create the xml document and test/develop it using 'forrest run'. Rather than email it, please attach it to this FOR-707 issue.

Also don't forget that there is some basic documentation in a "forrest seed" sample site. The earlier comment in this FOR-707 at 17/May/06 provides more detail. Perhaps it would be better to expand that sample - it is up to you.

Ross,
I am happy to document i18n. I am currently trying to get it to work for multiple languages in a test F7 app. posting my question via users mailing list. Any info on how to get it running is appreciated. The sooner my test runs, the sooner I can play around with the possibilities, write the howto and attach the any menu/tabs/catalogue lang files I create aside from what is currently in the distro.

Ross,
At the moment I am stumbling through the i18n jungle myself and I can document my findings for the benefit of others. As I am not familiar with SVN and being a Windows user the easiest way for me would be to create an XML document for Forrest and mail it to you or dev<at>forrest.apache.org . Would this be a viable way of contributing?

I tried to expand the i18n.xml as far as I understood the workings of Forrest. It is a mixture of What and How-to. Please check for errors and glitches.

I hope you will find it helpful. I might provide a German version if this is of any use.
