[NOMINATIONS] New Name for SensSoft

Hi Folks,
This thread opens the NOMINATIONS for new candidate names to replace Apache
SensSoft (Incubating) with... something else!
!! EVERYONE IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE !!
If you wish to throw a suggestion in the hat, simply reply to this thread
with your nomination (no motivation is required but would be fun).
After a while, we will close the NOMINATIONS and go to a 72 hours VOTE
where we will hopefully determine the new name for SensSoft :)
Let the NOMINATIONS begin...
Lewis

I would like to propose the name "MANTIS" as in the Mantis Shrimp which has
a very complex visual sensory system. Known to have the most complex visual
system in the animal kingdom, mantis shrimps have 16 types of
photoreceptors (light detectors) that can detect visible and ultraviolet
(UV) light and are the only known animals to see the circularly polarized
light! Aside from that, they can sense light depth on one eye while
independently moving the other.

The proposed name would therefore be Apache Mantis (Incubating)

I'm sure we could get some kick ass graphics for Mantis as well.

I would like to propose “Wanderlust” for the Podling, as in a person that enjoys travel.

If selected the Podling would be named "Apache Wanderlust”

Now that we’ve collected enough nominations, I’m going to kick off the PODLINGNAMESEARCH process on each name starting next week—I’m out of town most of this week… Stay tuned. You’ll see some activity on JIRA.

Don’t know Steve. I think regardless of the name, our new Logo should look like an REO Speedwagon album cover with a Dragon riding a Delorean with a Flagon of ale. We can replace Mr Fusion with an Alembic.

Just to clarify, if we change the name to Flagon will the logo have a Dragon? We wouldn't want to confuse users as to whether or not STOUT or ALE is the brew that is true.

I would like to propose the Podling name, “ReVisit”, as in a return, or concerning a visit (a play on RE Visit). Very clear branding for visitation metrics.

If selected the Podling name would change to Apache ReVisit.

Alembic is a nice term fro a stack like this, but I think there is a
somewhat popular Python library by the same name used for doing database
migrations.

I would like to propose the name Alembic.

Definition of *alembic *

1: an apparatus used in distillation

2: something that refines or transmutes as if by distillationphilosophy …
filtered through the alembic of Plato's mind— B. T. Shropshire
SensSoft was designed to collect people's interactions with software
without influencing those interactions at all. All the components of
SensSoft (including Distill, of course) are designed to enable the
extraction of insights from this data-separating them from the noise.

The proposed name would therefore be Apache Alembic (incubating).

@Rob~

All good branding is loaded :) “Pub” isn’t my favorite, either. Doesn’t roll of the tongue well next to Apache… Good thoughts on Tavern. Thanks for the input! Send more—We’ll want a bunch, just in case we see some overlap with other marks.

I would like to propose the name “Amble" as in a casual walk. Describes browse and some page navigation (esp. for novices).
Very descriptive of our functionality and how our data falls out. There are marks on USPTO in IC 009, but mostly for electronic payments, and travel sites.

The proposed name would therefore be Apache Amble (Incubating)

in and out of webpages, and as they drift across the page. Doesn’t result in any *exact* hits for

I would like to propose the name “Pub" as in a public house, a meeting place where people have ALE and tell stories. As a root “Pub” (e.g., public, polity, etc.) refers to people. I would like to propose the name "ToAST" as in *T*ap *A*le *Stout* which in
my opinion pays true hommage to the fantastic heritage of alcoholic
references within SensSoft's sub projects. It also of course refers to the
fact that we make a toast when we drink. I think the existing marketing
behind SensSoft is so cool so hopefully this name aligns with that theme.
The proposed name is therefore

I would like to propose the name Alembic.

Definition of *alembic *

1: an apparatus used in distillation

2: something that refines or transmutes as if by distillationphilosophy …
filtered through the alembic of Plato's mind— B. T. Shropshire
SensSoft was designed to collect people's interactions with software
without influencing those interactions at all. All the components of
SensSoft (including Distill, of course) are designed to enable the
extraction of insights from this data-separating them from the noise.

The proposed name would therefore be Apache Alembic (incubating).

I would like to propose the name “Folktale" as in simple stories about people, told by people. In one view, the project is about capturing users’ stories as they pass through web media. In another, to me the project vision has always been longer reaching than describing use, but about understanding people and how navigate through information. Our process level perspective made me think about “stories”—people, places and things connected in a narrative. Our technology collects, abstracts, and distributes those stories to other interested services, which make me think about how folktales are passed along. It’s an approachable name, friendly, and… doesn’t result in any hits for marks on USPTO. Stories always go better with ALE.

The proposed name would therefore be Apache Folktale (Incubating)

From a marketing perspective, I’m thinking about etching like images of 19th century folks at a pub with a pint.
