Summary: This tutorial sucks.
Product: Cocoon 2
Version: 2.1.7
Platform: All
URL: http://localhost:8888/docs/tutorial/tutorial-develop-
webapp.html
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: dev@cocoon.apache.org

This tutorial is confusing. I can list many reasons, but I would suggest that
someone just try to go through it, and pretend you've never used Cocoon before.
After sucessfully building Cocoon I attempted to use this tutorial. About half
way down I gave up, because every time a new instruciton came up, I had to
through a stage of debugging them; since each were invariably misleading,
outdated, or just lacking vital information.
A good example is that you don't bother mentioning that we will or won't be
using the example found in samples/blocks/databases/tuturial. If you are, then
the documentation's quoted text do not match the actual files found.
Another example is that no file locations (and often file -names-) are given.
How is a new user to know where sitemap.xmap is to be located? Or what it even
to be named? I know I can infer this by looking at other examples, which is
what I was forced to do. But that is not the purpose of a tutorial, I would
believe.
Anyway, I'll come revisit Cocoon -next- project, maybe then the tutorial will
actually be usable, and I'll be happy.
