ActiveMQ 5 Roadmap

Three versions of ActiveMQ have been released this year (5.16.[123]), the last one was in August.

Is there an ETA for 5.16.4?

Regarding 5.17, I could not find any information. Could someone please tell me what will change from 5.16 and when we can expect 5.17 to be released?

Finally, the new Java LTS has been released (Java 17 in September 2021) and Fedora 36 will replace Java 11 by Java 17.

Is ActiveMQ 5.16 supported on Java 17?

Maybe a table in the official documentation listing which Java versions (min/max) are supported by which ActiveMQ 5.x version would be useful to have?

Cheers,

Lionel

Correct. AdoptOpenjdk11 did work well with this version, too btw.

Hi Herbert,

I guess you were using ActiveMQ 5.15.x, not 5.16.x, right ?

This is definitely a good question.
Not so long ago I tried to make the AMQ broker run with OpenJDK11 comming
with RHEL and found serious difficulties with the XML configuration. Well
finally fixed it with additional jars. Too late checked the releasenotes:
It was still released for Java 8 only (yes, I should have read this
before... )

Hi,

- ActiveMQ 5.16.x supports Java 11+ (including Java 17) at runtime (not
the build itself)
- ActiveMQ 5.17.x (currently the main branch) support Java 11+ at
runtime and build time

Good point about Java version. I will update the website with this
information (and also Spring version).

About 5.16.4, I'm on it, it should be on vote by the end of the
week/beginning of next week.

Regards
JB
