Hi, 
 I think download is doable, but you will then have a zipped artefact in your local repo.
 Each time  you clean install, plugin will need to unzip artefacts ,this may cost time.

maybe it can be nice to ask people interested on dev ml to go to this issue, to consolidate with others.

Do you plan a Pull Request ?
