Spark cluster tests are run via scalatest plugin instead of failsafe. That means that variables used to selectively running java tests don't apply to spark tests. I.E., {{mvn clean verify -Dit.test=MapReduceIT -Dtest=NoSuchTest -DfailIfNoTests=false}} should run only the specified {{MapReduceIT}}, instead it runs all of spark ITs as well.
