[jira] [Created] (BROOKLYN-104) Brooklyn landing page on a clean
install is unhelpful
Richard Downer created BROOKLYN-104:
---------------------------------------
Summary: Brooklyn landing page on a clean install is unhelpful
Key: BROOKLYN-104
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BROOKLYN-104
Project: Brooklyn
Issue Type: Improvement
Affects Versions: 0.7.0-M1
Reporter: Richard Downer
When starting from a clean install of Brooklyn (no catalog.xml, minimal brooklyn.properties), the first visit to the Brooklyn console will pop up the 'create application' dialog. Without a catalog this is basically an empty white box! For a first-time user unfamiliar with Brooklyn, this behaviour is unhelpful and does not suggest to a user a natural course of action to take.
Possible solutions:
- if the catalog is empty, display an appropriate message instead and suggest that the user use the YAML tab instead
- don't pop up the 'create application' dialog by default
