   ## What is the purpose of the change
   
   This PR sits on top of #8431 and introduces compatibility code in `SourceStreamTask` so that sources can run with the mailbox model.
   
   ## Brief change log
   
   - Only changes `SourceStreamTask` to run the operator in a separate thread, in parallel to the mailbox thread.
   
   ## Verifying this change
   
   This change is already covered by existing tests.
