"End of TNS data channel" with Oracle store?

Hi,
I'm new to Slide and am evaluating it for possible inclusion on my
project. While I'm very pleased with what I've seen of Slide so far, I am
getting a consistent run-time exception that is potentially a show-stopper
for me. I was hoping someone could either tell me what I'm doing wrong or
tell me if this is a known issue. I've checked the mailing list and have
not seen any reports of this particular error message. I would love to get
this issue resolved as I am otherwise very impressed with Slide as a CMS.
My test environment has 2 machines:

Machine #1: Win2K, Service Pack 2 and Oracle 8.1.6.
Machine #2: Mandrake Linux 8.0, Tomcat 4.0, JDK 1.3.1 and the latest nightly
build of Slide (as of 10/29).

Following the directions on the Slide home page and in the mailing list,
I configured Slide (which, again, is running on the Linux machine) to store
its data in the Oracle database on the Win2K machine. I then set up a Web
Folder on my Win2K machine to point to http://<my_linux_host>:8080/slide.
Using that web folder, I can drag and drop a plain text file and see that
it stores properly in the Oracle database. I can then retrieve it from
Win2K by double clicking on it. Everything works as expected. If, however,
I drag and drop, say, a Word document or an image on the web folder, Win2K
says "an error occurred copying some or all of the selected files" and I get
a nasty-looking stack trace in Tomcat's log file, catalina.out. I've
included a partial stack trace below that was generated when I dropped a
Word document (resume.rtf) on my files folder.
I guess what I'm asking is, because I'm new to Slide, am I missing
something fundamental here or has anyone else seen this behavior? Is this
an issue with the JDBC driver I'm using (which is the one that comes bundled
with Oracle 8.1.6) or perhaps with Slide?

Thanks in advance!
-kevin

Another datapoint FWIW, we've had no problems at all with Oracle 8.1.7
running on Linux and on NT4, in both cases using the thin driver, with
the JDBCDescriptorStore. cheers, Jason

The thin driver? I'm aksing because I've noticed problems in the past
with BLOBS, CLOBS etc. with the thin driver and oracle 8.1.7.

It is Oracle 8.1.7. The jdbc driver comes with the database.

Which database version and which jdbc driver did he use? I couldn't tell

Hi Kevin

Ting Ning had the same problem with oracle and wrote a special oracle
content store.
(see mails from 4 okt)
I tried using the standard blob methods but it seems that only the
oracle specific methods are working. There is still a (minor) issue with
the general transaction code but the oracle content store works fine.

I'll commit my version in a few moments.

Maybe one improvement is still needed: store the content length using
revisionDescriptor.setContentLength.

This store is only tested with a multi-thread test not the full slide
webdav but I don't expect problems. I use Oracle9.

It looks like the exception I got when I tested the Oracle db. In my
case it helped when I changed my Oracle jdbc driver. It is a while ago
and I cannot remember what driver I ended up with - I think it was the
I-net driver, but I am not sure!

	Hi,
I'm new to Slide and am evaluating it for possible inclusion
on my project. While I'm very pleased with what I've seen of Slide so
far, I am getting a consistent run-time exception that is potentially a
show-stopper for me. I was hoping someone could either tell me what I'm
doing wrong or tell me if this is a known issue. I've checked the
mailing list and have not seen any reports of this particular error
message. I would love to get this issue resolved as I am otherwise very
impressed with Slide as a CMS. My test environment has 2 machines:

	Machine #1: Win2K, Service Pack 2 and Oracle 8.1.6.
Machine #2: Mandrake Linux 8.0, Tomcat 4.0, JDK 1.3.1 and the
latest nightly build of Slide (as of 10/29).

Following the directions on the Slide home page and in the
mailing list, I configured Slide (which, again, is running on the Linux
machine) to store its data in the Oracle database on the Win2K machine.
I then set up a Web Folder on my Win2K machine to point to
http://<my_linux_host>:8080/slide. Using that web folder, I can drag
and drop a plain text file and see that it stores properly in the
Oracle database. I can then retrieve it from Win2K by double clicking
on it. Everything works as expected. If, however, I drag and drop,
say, a Word document or an image on the web folder, Win2K says "an error
occurred copying some or all of the selected files" and I get a
nasty-looking stack trace in Tomcat's log file, catalina.out. I've
included a partial stack trace below that was generated when I dropped
a Word document (resume.rtf) on my files folder.
I guess what I'm asking is, because I'm new to Slide, am I
missing something fundamental here or has anyone else seen this
behavior? Is this an issue with the JDBC driver I'm using (which is the
one that comes bundled with Oracle 8.1.6) or perhaps with Slide?

	Thanks in advance!
