You first have to define what is compatibility before anyone can answer that.

Artemis implements OpenWire, so clients should be able to connect
towards Artemis.

Artemis don't support every feature of AMQ5 (Like virtual topics is
probably not needed given the new way addresses and queues are mapped
on Artemis + JMS2).. so it really depends on what you mean by your
question.
