I have the same problem.  I start a new document, insert text, hit save, and
the ball starts spinning.  Nothing happens for a while, and then I get a
message that it couldn't connect to a server or the server doesn't exist.  But
this is a standalone laptop and OpenOffice is on this computer anyway.  Why
does it need to connect to any server?

Anyway, I've had no success with saving any documents except documents that
already exist.  I can edit and save.  But I can't change the filename because
the moment I try to save as a new document with a new filename, the ball starts
spinning and the system hangs on me.
