initial proposal for next xerces 1 release - details

Here is an initial list of schema development work that needs to be done
for our next release - I'm continuing to look at the latest spec to see if
there is other work.

If we end up with a fairly complete schema implementation, we may want to
name the release 1.4.

I would like to volunteer for item (7) - complexType, model group and
particle constraint checking.
If you would like to help out with any of these items, pls let me know...

Also, if there are other changes you think we should target in this
release, pls post them as well.

We'll obviously be putting bug fixes into the release as well ... I agree
with Ted's suggestion (from other mail today) about prioritizing these and
adding them to the plan.

Schema line items:

1. Block and final

2. Support of default and fixed attributes for elements

3. date/time

4. Identity constraints - finish support and modify according to PR
definition of XPath subset

5. General constraint checking infrastructure (for checking common to
6,7,8)

6. Constraint checking:  elements, attributes, attribute groups, wildcards

7. Constraint checking:  complexType, model groups, particles

8. Constraint checking:  simpleType

9. Error checking for xsi:type

10. Re-implementation of "all" to avoid scaling problems

11. Nillable

12. Remove limitations on usage of xsi:schemaLocation, etc.

13.  PR change:   Structures K.6 - changes to attribute declarations and
the specification of default/fixed, etc.

14.  PR changes for Datatypes - misc. cleanup  (e.g. renaming of
uriReference->anyURI, CDATA->normalizedString, change to lexical space of
boolean, + several other changes to be enumerated)

I will also help Sandy with Datatypes -- to commit patches and to
coordinate changes that need to be done ( I think I have pretty good
idea about those):
