The "Rolodex" data in the shale-clay-usecases example app would make a dandy basis for a number of different example apps, if it were extracted out into a reusable component like the Struts mailreader-dao was pulled out.  Along the way, make it easy to provide both an in-memory version (loaded from an internal XML resource, as the current version is), and optionally Hibernate and/or JPA versions as well.
