proposal: web design contest
I propose we start a web design contest to design a new web site for
<http://spamassassin.apache.org/> to finish in time for our 3.1 release.
** DRAFT ONLY **
------- start of cut text --------------
Requirements:
- reasonable standards conformance
- good appearance with graphical browsers (especially, Mozilla and
Internet Explorer on 800x600 screen or larger) and usable with
text-based browsers
- good maintainability using text-based source for site, can be
maintained via Subversion, may not depend on proprietary tools
- contestant willing to contribute submission under standard Apache
Contributor License Agreement and help install/integrate new site
into our Subversion tree
- integrate our current logo, pay attention to correct usage of
"Apache" and "SpamAssassin" trademarks (the current site is a bit
off in this respect).
Submissions meeting the requirements will be judged on meeting the
following criteria:
- design and appearance
- ease of navigation
- A more standard set of top-level pages (we are very flexible on how
this is done, the end goal is a better site). For example (in no
particular order):
Download
Products/Solutions
About Us
News/Events
Support
Initiatives
- not being too out of step with other ASF projects
- backward link compatibility for pages currently indexed by Google
- solid and clean coexistence with the SpamAssassin Wiki
------- end ----------------------------

+1 I'd like to see something XHTML-compliant and CSS-driven, not a big
bunch of <table>-hackery.
Cheers,

Okay, I moved the contest description draft into the wiki with a
prominent note that the contest has not started. I added a few
additional requirements and judging parameters and also put on a
tentative finish date of March 31, 2005.

I'm hoping the silence indicates lots of agreement, but since this is a
rather big thing, can I get a few +1s on this one?
