What to extend for a custom component

I have a custom component that implements
functionality like the dataTable tag.  So I thought I
should extend that.  But I am having trouble getting
all of the pieces to work.  Here is what I have:

For the component:

public class UIRptTableData extends HtmlDataTable

For the renderer:

public class RptTableDataRenderer extends Renderer

For the tag:

public class RptTableDataTag extends HtmlDataTableTag

For the faces-config:

<render-kit>
	<renderer>
	<component-family>javax.faces.Data</component-family>

<renderer-type>tblmaint.rptTableDataRenderer</renderer-type>

<renderer-class>com.monsanto.ag_it.fieldops.aim.tblmaint.renderer.RptTableDataRenderer</renderer-class>
	</renderer>
</render-kit>

Does what these classes all extend and the
component-family all look right for a custom tag that
implements dataTable type functionality?
