[jira] [Updated] (INFRA-11671) Still can't add anyone into roles for the DIRECTORY projects and similar

Emmanuel Lecharny updated INFRA-11671:
--------------------------------------
Status: Waiting for Infra (was: Closed)

Still facing some limitations : Someone from the Administrators project role (like Shawn McKinney) is not able to close a release, or create a new version.

OTOH, I see that the Directory project permissions scheme is still in place. I thought it would be a good idea to get rid of that ? My guess is that the 'ability to administer a project in Jira' is needed as a permission to manage releases. If so, the best would be to delete the permission scheme, to default to the Apache default's one...

Thanks !

> Months ago, I have requested to be able to add users to roles, or to get rid of the specific roles we are using, on which I have no control, not being a JIRA administrator.
> I still can't do that, and this is a recurrent issue for the new committers we vote in.
> This [page|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INFRA/Role+Based+JIRA+Authorization] claims that we can add users to a standard role, but I can't simply see the 'view' link which is supposed to be in the 'far right'. Is JIRA now using the ASF LDAP server to detect the committers/PMC members ? Or is the JIRA role based system fed when we modify the ASF LDAP server ?
> Bottom line, what we want is a way to add a new committer into a role, for every PMC members. If that mean we doom the specific Directory Schema, then be it.
> This problem exists for the following projects, to some extent :
> * DIR
> * DIRSERVER
> * DIRAPI
> * DIRGROOVY
> * DIRKRB
> * DIRSHARED
> * DIRSTUDIO
> * ESCIMO
> * FC
> * FTPSERVER
> * MAVIBOT
> * DIRMINA
> * SSHD
> * VYSPER
> Many thanks !
