HDFS reliability & large files

Hi Folks,

I'd like to get an idea from those running HDFS in production of 
how reliable HDFS is in comparison to commercial stuff.  Have you 
ever had lost data?  Had downtime?  Anything special you do for 
reliability?

Also, I'm storing files up to several GB.  Will this be efficient?
