RDP audio output streaming issues
Hello,
I have some problems getting audio output to work when connecting through
RDP.
I'm using guacd version 1.0.0 and a linux image already configured
configured. Here is my docker-compose file:
version: '3.7'
services:
guacd:
image: guacamole/guacd:1.0.0
ports:
- "48220:4822"
xfce4:
image: danielguerra/xfce4-rdp-audio
ports:
- 33890:3389
shm_size: '2gb'
The same linux image works perfectly using guacamole webapp or another RDP
client.
I'm trying using guacamole-lite (
https://www.npmjs.com/package/guacamole-lite) but I have the same problem
also using the custom client from the guacamole-tutorial.
Everything works except the audio output, and the only information I founds
tells the audio and video streaming should work out of the box.
Does anyone else had this problem?
Thank you very much!

I run this in 2 setups, one against the official guacd docker container
"guacamole/guacd:1.0.0", and one against guacamole-lite. If guacamole-lite
doesn't send the opcodes I'll stop trying with it.
In the former setup I'm using the tutorial example (with the modification
specified in my previous message in the index.html file) to build a custom
webapp that communicates with guacd.

Are you running this against the official Guacamole Client back-end
(guacamole.war in Tomcat), or against the guacamole-lite back-end? Looking
at the code for guacamole-lite, I'm not sure it implements audio support.
Based on the following lines in their code:
https://github.com/vadimpronin/guacamole-lite/blob/03d688a1f8633fca1f6620c955a0b31dff5f3a41/lib/GuacdClient.js#L79-L88
it looks to me like they just send empty audio, video, and image opcodes
during the handshake. I think this works fine because there is a default
for the image opcode, even if you send an empty one there is a default
image type that is supported - however, the same is not true of audio and
video types.

Hi Nick,
actually I modified the tutorial with those lines:
let connectionString = "";
Guacamole.AudioPlayer.getSupportedTypes().forEach(function (mimetype) {
connectionString += "&GUAC_AUDIO=" + encodeURIComponent(mimetype);
});
Guacamole.VideoPlayer.getSupportedTypes().forEach(function (mimetype) {
connectionString += "&GUAC_VIDEO=" + encodeURIComponent(mimetype);
});
connectionString = connectionString.slice(1);
// Connect
guac.connect(connectionString);
that seems to be what the actual webapp does, the resulting
connectionString is "GUAC_AUDIO=audio%2FL8&GUAC_AUDIO=audio%2FL16"
Looking through the official webapp code I didn't find anything else
related to audio, but I'm not very skilled in angular of html5 so I might
have missed the point.

Looking at this example, I'm not sure it actually implements audio. If you
look at the code for the full client, particularly the ManagedClient.js
file (
https://github.com/apache/guacamole-client/blob/master/guacamole/src/main/webapp/app/client/types/ManagedClient.js)
you'll see that there's a decent amount of setup that goes into the client,
including several audio and video-specific parameters that get passed
through the tunnel and on to guacd. I've never played with the example, or
attempted to write my own, but I suspect that the example is a very
stripped-down version of the client that is not expected to support audio.

Hi Nick,
thank you for your response.
I tried with two clients, one is exactly this on
https://github.com/apache/guacamole-client/tree/master/doc/guacamole-example,
the other one uses guacamoli-lite.
The HTML file is basically the same for both, the only difference is the
tunnel creation.
I didnt' contacted guacamole-lite's author yet because I'm not sure where
the problem lies. I can try though.

This would point to something on the client side, and, given your statement
below, that you're trying both a custom client and the guacamole-lite one,
I would say that those would be the places to look. If you can share your
custom code, someone might be able to take a look and see where it might be
going wrong.
I'm not familiar with guacamole-lite, at all - I seem to recall the person
who wrote it posting to the list a while back, but it looks like it's a
couple of years old. Have you tried reaching out to them to see if they
expect that audio works?
