   I don't think it's a good idea to incorporate scanning into the web interface of the monitor. This raises a bunch of concerns about security, especially authentication. The monitor is also supposed to be a limited status monitoring service, not a triage service. Adding scan features to the monitor would expand its scope significantly, and I think it's better to keep its scope limited.
   
   Prior to 2.0, we did have the ability to scan via the monitor, because we had an embedded shell inside the monitor when it was running with SSL/TLS. We stripped it out, to simplify the service. It was fraught with security concerns anyway, so it's probably best that it was stripped out.
