[~chrismattmann] This can now be closed as it's resolved via TIKA-1820. Sorry for starting this but not finishing it. Good to see someone else found a solution.

The update is mostly maintenance, adopting slf4j and generics as well as moving the namespace from _com.sun.syndication_ to _com.rometools_. PR upcoming.
