[jira] [Created] (INFRA-6652) upgrade of forum.o.o, including
ubuntu, mysql and httpd
jan iversen created INFRA-6652:
----------------------------------
Summary: upgrade of forum.o.o, including ubuntu, mysql and httpd
Key: INFRA-6652
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-6652
Project: Infrastructure
Issue Type: Task
Components: Website
Environment: mysql, httpd, memcached, ubuntu, php and phpBB
Reporter: jan iversen
the forum.o.o vm suffers from very bad response time, and have done so for quite a while.
Looking into details it needs more phys. ram (it servers an average of 240 active writer any time of the day).
I work on optimizing memory/cpu usage in mysql which includes optimizing the old myisam tables.
we have the following work to do:
- release upgrade ubuntu
- upgrade httpd and prepare for certificates (openoffice cert)
- upgrade mysql to 5.6 or at least 5.5 (the current 5.1 has big memory leaks)
- change myisam tables to innodb (much faster)
- make some minor maintenance in phpBB (due to 4.0 release)
Since it a high activity server, I propose we make a second vm after initial setup, I take over and do the above items (apart from ubuntu). That way we can safely test it, and when satisfied copy the live db and switch dns.
