implementing soap

Hi all,

I have succesfully used Apache soap with tomcat.
there are so many tools available to create and deploy web services but

I wan't to know how can we actually implement Soap without using any tool.
I have no idea of it.

can anybody guide me to the right direction.

Thanks and Regards

Neha,

It depends on how deep you want to go when you say "any tool". Are you
willing to use an XML parser? Are you willing to use a servlet engine or
even an HTTP server? (I think all of these technologies qualify as "tools".)

SOAP is simply an XML format. You can write client and service applications
that can create and consume XML documents that conform to the SOAP schema
and communicate using HTTP. (It's hard to do such a thing without an XML
parser and an HTTP server, but even that's possible.)

But why would you want to do so? The reason that you use a SOAP toolkit such
as Apache SOAP or Apache Axis is that it performs the XML processing for you
and translates XML into Java types, it manages the HTTP communication for
you, it manages the service lifecycle for you. It automatically propagates
errors for you. Do you really want to write all of this middleware
functionality into your application code?
