https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-6760712 defines a property "jmx.remote.x.daemon", if specified as "true" in the environment map when starting a connector server, the connector server will run as a daemon and will not prevent the VM from exiting.  This should be used instead to replace the dependency to JDK internal API.
