NewBie Question

hi All,
I am slide-newbie. i just downloaded the nightly
version from cvs. built it. everything seemed to be
ok. But when i run the server, i was not able to log
in as root and basically i was not able to do much at
all.

is there any good documentation for using it.

I would really appreciate if somebody could help.
