Although the Developing guide is somewhat dated, it's important to note the overall view of concepts relating to component, component control, and how components interact with their surroundings (Work/Role Interfaces, etc).  It's also recommended that you read the related documents, such as the [http://www.laputan.org/drc/drc.html IoC] and [http://www.research.ibm.com/hyperspace/MDSOC.htm SoC] pattern documents.
