   Looks like this was addressed by [HUDI-1517](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HUDI-1517) (commit c2c7e0538f8c, PR #11187, May 2024) and further refined by [HUDI-9236](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HUDI-9236) (commit 14e406992752, PR #13007, March 2025).
   
   In current master:
   - **Upgrade** — `ZeroToOneUpgradeHandler.recreateMarkers()` deletes old markers and re-creates them in the new per-log-file format (APPEND markers for log files, MERGE for base files) for any pending commits.
   - **Downgrade** — `OneToZeroDowngradeHandler` deletes existing markers for pending commits without re-creating them in the old format. Pending commits are then handled by listing-based rollback when reopened with the older version.
   
   If this matches the intent, this issue can probably be closed. If a separate concern remains (e.g., explicitly triggering rollback inline during downgrade), please re-open with the specific gap.
