[jira] [Commented] (HBASE-5127) [ref manual] Better block cache documentation

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-5127?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13180059#comment-13180059 ]

stack commented on HBASE-5127:
------------------------------

Say what a 'a single access priority.' is or, up front say what the three levels are (seems like they are in-memory, single-access and multiple-access).

"...and look for the average key size....": IIRC, the meta data on an hfile has average key size in it (We are calculating it for key and value at least http://hbase.apache.org/xref/org/apache/hadoop/hbase/io/hfile/HFile.html#362)

Regards '...generate more garbage to pick up by the JVM.' you could tell people to look in logs since cache prints out hit rate every minute or so

Otherwise, doc is excellent. Fix above on commit.

> I've been playing a lot with 0.92's block caching and I wrote down some documentation that I think will be useful to others.
