Re: [users@httpd] Apache 2.0.43 on OpenBSD 3.0 freezes or behaves strangely

Jean,

I understand that it does, I have not done it myself. I am hoping someone on
the list will know. I know that users with the Apache group is on the list.

Can anyone else give any feedback on this topic???

Can I install PHP 4 with 1.3.27? Is it more stable?

I had 1.3.26 before (still installed actually), but I just couldn't get PHP 4 working with it. I'm just looking for a stable Apache/PHP/MySQL setup on OpenBSD 3.0.

Does a classic, trouble free setup exists for this?

Thanks,

Jean-Pierre

Jean-Pierre,

I have the understanding the PHP 4 and Apache 2 do not play nice together. I was at ApacheCon
in Vegas, that is what one of the session talked about. I could be wrong, but I beleive that is what
was stated.

Hi,

I recently installed Apache 2.0.43 with mod_ssl on OpenBSD 3.0 with PHP 4.2.3 (not using it yet). Before, I had 1.3.26 and it worked fine, but I couldn't install PHP 4 on it I think.

Since I installed 2.0.43, the web server will sometimes "freeze", meaning I can't connect to any web sites. Also, very recently, it was working but all virtual sites were ending up on the main site (default in httpd.conf).

Since I'm not really using any PHP scripts, I don't think this is an issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jean-Pierre

Hmmm... I used the same parameters that I had in my old httpd.conf (1.3x)
and it worked fine for quite some time. Also, I can't see how the httpd.conf
can work for a while and then suddenly be the cause of an Apache failure. I
wish I had some kind of error messages stored somewhere... : /

I have been using Apache 2 and PHP4 for the since January with no
problems.... Using FreeBSD 4.7... shouldn't be that different since
it's the BSD kernel. Could be the httpd.conf file?

Well, Apache2 is in fact the best available version of Apache.

However, PHP support for Apache2 is only developmental at this point. I
have heard a time frame of about 4 or 5 months from PHP people before
PHP will be supported under Apache2.

Tom

Re: [users@httpd] Apache 2.0.43 on OpenBSD 3.0 freezes or behaves strangely

Posted by Jean-Pierre Tanguay <ta...@eyenok.com>.
Thanks for the tip!

I'll try the latest 1.3X branch instead of the 2.X. I tried the second because on the Apache site, they say : "is the best available version". Obviously, this is not the case in all situations.

Cheers!

Jean-Pierre
