openExpo conference in madrid june 26.
Hi.
Thanks to a initative from jza, I have been invited to give one of the
keynote speeches at a one day conference in madrid june 26
http://www.openexpo.es/
The event is a free entrance event, that sadly means that I have to pay
travel/hotel myself. They expect 500 participants
I am currently "negotiating" content and form. Theme is ApacheOpenOffice
and working in a foundation (how/why is ASF different from e.g.
sourceForge). Its a 40 minutes talk, so I have time to around.
ASF have willingly made sure I get some apache stickers to hand out. It
would be real nice though also to have some AOO stickers with info on
download etc.
Is there any chance we could use a bit of our budget to create/print
stickers ? or do anyone have some ?

Good. I'll be terse since delivery delays are making most of the
conversations here fruitless.

See my conversation with Detlef in the archives. Maybe we can take the
occasion for preparing materials in several languages.

Andrea.

I know, but a conference that have many talks, paid expensively, by
companies, cannot be taken serious when the see volunteers at the same
level. I was actually asked if ASF could not pay. The conference organizers
earn money on the event and that does not seem really compatible with
volunteer work.
I would not like to use our budget for that type of event. Likewise I have
been out speaking at a local university (and go to a highschool in
september), where I paid my own way and they gave lunch.

Actually not my idea, but something a company I worked did regulary, and it
worked very well.

I see. Well, you know better than everybody else that the project does
have some money for events... but of course the event must be worth it.
I personally had never heard about this event before (this probably
doesn't mean anything: I'm not familiar with Spanish software conferences).

Good suggestion, let's hope they consider it.

Andrea.

Yes because thats what the companies pay for. All the talks are paid by
companies.
I have written earlier, that it did not work out. They wanted me to pay for
everything, and even asked if I could bring my own projector. That of
course made me politely inform them that I am a volunteer and cannot use a
lot of money on such an event.
I suggested that they next year, ask the companies to pay a little more,
and use that on volunteers, just e.g. a lunch to signal respect of the
volunteers. That will be considered for next years conference.

I don't see either Apache or OpenOffice mentioned in the program. Did
they decide to focus on other topics in the end? The current program
seems focused around web and cloud technologies.
