I have made changes in android cordova plugin - StatusBar.java to fix this issue:

//window.getClass().getDeclaredMethod("setStatusBarColor", int.class).invoke(window, Color.parseColor(colorPref)); //Removed
window.setStatusBarColor(Color.parseColor(colorPref)); //Added
