[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-6217) Create CentOS 5 image for tethys

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-6217?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15170993#comment-15170993 ]

Andrea Pescetti commented on INFRA-6217:
----------------------------------------

So in order to create a more detailed request and know what can work, if our final aim is "Having a 64-bit CentOS 5 VM hosted at the ASF, with shell access to selected project members, where we can manually trigger builds of OpenOffice (first priority) and have a buildbot running (second priority, but we can do without if CentOS 5 is not compatible with buildbot software)" how can we help with it?

Shall we provide a disk image with the fully configured system? Something else? Note that we may or may not need a 32-bit CentOS 5 VM too (I mean, we'll want to produce 32-bit builds too, and I haven't checked what is possible yet; but this comes later). As for VM size, disk space is the most important requirement, and it looks like 50 GBytes could do. CentOS 5 is old but still supported.

> The preferred OS for building OpenOffice on Linux is CentOS 5 (RedHat analog...)
> This makes the generated binaries as widely compatible as possible.
> This is the platform that we expect to run the most buildbot flows on, so we would like to convert tethys, which is dedicated to AOO buildbot and imaged as Linux64, to CentOS 5 32-bit.
> In discussions, it seems that the preferred option is to run a CentOS vm on top of an ubuntu host, so that the host can be managed as the rest of the infra infra.
