[~hpandey] I would suggest that we use the simplest approach for now:  all special nodes must be present for all groups, or else throw an error.  Later if we decide to change this, we can try another way based on community feedback.

It would be good if the error message gives some information on which nodes are missing, so that the user can troubleshoot.  That is, try to make the error message as informative as possible.

Please let me know if you think this is a reasonable approach
