Thanks for your quick response. I would like to argue that it would be the interests of many to possibly have a servlet 2.4 web.xml as the default.

I know that we can rewrite our own, but I think that it would help adoption to have the lowest common denominator as default. Also since 2.5 containers can also read 2.4 web.xml, I would like to ask you to consider my proposal.

Hi,
The web.xml in java/server is only an example. You'll want to customize your own. If you want look at subversion history to see a 2.4 version (basically you just need to expand the url-pattern mappings into multiple stanzas)
