Giving the POI logo a bit of love

Hi awesome POI folks!

As some of you know, I've been hunting down logos, touching them up as I
go along, with the aim of centralizing our project logos to aid people
looking for said logos. During this hunt, I noticed that the current POI
logo could use some love. It does not scale well, and the color scheme
is not very viable for many print/swag operations.

So, I did a retake on the original idea, and I have posted it at:

https://www.apache.org/logos/comdev-test/res/poi/poi-proposed.svg

If you like the proposal, you are naturally free to adopt it. It's ALv2
licensed, so whatever goes :-). If you have suggestions etc, or want to
stick with the old logo, that's of course fine as well. As I'm not
subscribed to this list, I'd appreciate it if I was CC'ed on any
replies/remarks.

With regards,
Daniel.

I'm not invested in any of these, but I like the older logo best

V0 / C0 / POLL : 0

[VOTE] new POI logo

Posted by Andreas Beeker <ki...@apache.org>.
Hi *,

Daniel (humbedooh) created a new logo for us and I don't want this issue left undecided/unanswered.

So please vote for the logos and its properties:

V0) keep current version:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/poi/site/src/documentation/resources/images/project-header.svg
V1) use Daniels first version:
https://www.apache.org/logos/comdev-test/res/poi/poi-proposed.svg
V2) use Daniels second version:
http://www.apache.org/logos/comdev-test/res/poi/poi-proposed2.svg
V3) suggest a different style - your favorite apache project logo?

C0) keep the gradient "POI" label
C1) use the black "POI" label
C2) suggest a different coloring style (foreground / background / frame / font ...)

POLL) although we probably have more important things to do,
we could have another logo contest

In the meantime I've really got used to the (modified) old style, therefore I vote:   V0 / C0 / POLL: 0

(... but a small poll with my better half seems to be balanced ... :| )

If you want some inspiration, you can look through the other project logos at
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/comdev/project-logos/originals

Thank you,

Andi

Alright, I've incorporated that into:
http://www.apache.org/logos/comdev-test/res/poi/poi-proposed2.svg

I'll leave it for now, people can edit it if they want to, and you can
decide - whichever decision you come to is fine, especially considering
you found a vector version of the original logo now :)

Hi Daniel,

after putting some time into the old logo I'm probably a bit biased ... so take the following with the grain of salt.

After looking at the logos side-by-side, I would prefer ...
- the coffee cup to be more stylistic - something like [1]
- the old font, which is called Transpond [2] ... luckily the website provides a rest service to generate arbitrary previews :)
- not yellowed documents. Although the implicit twist about "we also process your old documents" is funny, it gives
  the logo a patina look

So I would currently prefer the old logo.

Best wishes,
Andi

Hi Daniel,

wow ... the logo looks good ... if I only knew it earlier, before vectorizing the old logo :(

Lets see, what the others are up to.

Thank you anyways for brushing up the logo.

Andi
