excalibur & RMIs

Hi,

I noticed that cocoon uses RMIs and you have a jar file called excalibur.

Why are RMIs being used in the framework  ?

Why is the jar file called excalibur  ?

Because the Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering 
samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by 
divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur.
