Community Updates

Hey All,

I've been doing some thinking on how we can grow the community. I recently
did a Feathercast with Rich Bowen. You listen to the audio or get directed
to the YouTube video from this link. If you watch me carefully I keep
getting distracted by my dog outside my window while I'm talking :-).

https://feathercast.apache.org/2021/08/27/apache-heron-incubating-josh-fischer/

Additionally, I'm thinking of giving bi-weekly community updates on the
feathercast about Heron. Maybe we can get some of the material from the
bi-weekly update that Ning sends out. It would be cool to give shout outs
to the people working on Heron in the Feathercast. I'm not exactly sure of
the days/time or what the format will be yet. You can join in on the
conversation on the feathercast[at]apache[dot]org mailing list if you want.

Finally, I'm thinking of cutting one more RC out of the incubator before we
attempt to graduate. With this next RC I think we could also release the
helm chart, heronpy, and a distro on Heron in Docker (other than Debian).
This is an additional attempt to ease the use of Heron, which in my
opinion, is the biggest troublemaker for adoption. Let me know if anyone
has any issues with my thinking.

We've all made great progress on graduating Heron out of the incubator. I
believe we are on the final stretch.

- Josh

Not familiar with the feathercast thing. I agree that we should have
another release before graduation or in Q4 this year. I am assuming that by
"release helm chart" you mean push the chart to a public repo? Sounds good
to me. Also not sure about releasing "heronpy". Do we need a pip package or
something like that?
