Hmm. I know we have not voted - (and yeah we are all busy)—but should we
settle with the Logo /Website that André proposed?
We are just about to make the announcement, so it would be nice to point
people to github-repo but to the site, and I think even with that "simple"
and not yet fully reviewed content, we can get started and point people to "
magpie.apache.org" and update modify the docs as we go along. We can always
change those later—but it seems that the Logo and schema André proposed are
liked by many :D and we can get it going now to have it ready for the
announcement. I think it also plays nicely with the "agnostic" approach.
WDYT? Does anyone dislike it as a starting point?
André - maybe you can wire it up in the build process?
1) Create a "publish" orphaned branch where we publish generated files in
the main repo
2) Have a separate repo (magpie-site)
The drawback of such a branch is that the repository containing generated
files in the orphaned branch could become large. Depending on the size of
these files, a separate repo might be a better solution. We can ask infra
for a narrowly-scoped token to push only to the site repository (we need a
separate token for that). So I think that is a better solution
André, would it be possible for you to create a PR for it?
Once we have a "publish" orphaned branch pushed as a result of the build
(in ether repo), we can wire-it-up to Apache hosting via .asf.yaml -
https://infra.apache.org/project-site.html

Thanks André for the discussion. I don't have a strong opinion on this. I
like #4, it is more futuristic :)
Great news, Jarek! `Apache Way` would be huge. It can make things a bit
slower, but then more people can put in thoughts, comments and try it out.

Actually ... after reading those comments (and reflecting on Rich's thread
about effort duplication
https://lists.apache.org/thread/4t0wcz073f9owf35t4yhsh34zn47nrhm ) - I also
change my preferences to #4 being preferred
1) #4
2) #3 (but I think we need some "white" there - because the
black-and-white pattern is a Magpie's signature look; otherwise, it looks
just as a random bird
3) #2
Also, looking at Rich's concerns and Board discussions, I think there's a
misunderstanding that we want to either a) set Foundation -level policies,
b) bring Apache Way to others c) promote Apache Way inside ASF projects.
None of this is actually in our goals: Incubator, Comdev, Tooling have
their own "goals" there - and we should not even try to compete or
"replace" those.
We are "Way-agnostic" projects that come up with proposals that "any" OSS
project can use. We include some ASF projects if they choose to do so, but
we neither mandate nor expect all or most ASF projects will. It's freely up
to the project - whether ASF or not—to "Adopt Magpie" (BTW. This is a great
slogan we should use in promotion: "Adopt a Magpie" :).
So - while mine and Justin's initial proposals included the ASF Oak, and
Justin followed up on that, it **might** suggest that we do want to bring
"Apache Way" to others (both in- and out- of ASF).
That's why the geometric "M"-inspired logo fits way better here.
Best regards,
Jarek

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit biased since I created proposal #4, but I must say the work from
others is also great.
Regarding the design choices for #4, I intentionally avoided Apache-related
colors because I see Magpie as an agnostic project. My goal was to create
something modern and iconographic that wouldn't feel limited, focusing on
adoption by projects outside of the ASF as well.
Ruth and Richard, thank you for the feedback! I am definitely open to
working on variations and incorporating elements and colors (black and
white, but not just that, the green, blue, and other colors and accents
from magpie - the bird) that everyone liked from the other proposals.
Also, for those who haven't seen it yet, I created a website mockup for the
project here: https://andreahlert.github.io/magpie-site/
https://github.com/apache/airflow-steward/issues/244
Best regards,
André Ahlert

wonder if andreahlert might be willing to work on a variation that

Maybe I will start:
1) #3 (but I think we need some "white" there - because the
black-and-white pattern is a Magpie's signature look - otherwise it looks
just as a random bird
2) #2
3) #4
