[Bug 53231] New: Suggestion for the Windows 32/64 bit installer - include port 8443 in the configurator

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=53231

          Priority: P2
            Bug ID: 53231
          Assignee: dev@tomcat.apache.org
Summary: Suggestion for the Windows 32/64 bit installer -
include port 8443 in the configurator
          Severity: normal
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Windows XP
          Reporter: mcohen@pivotalsystems.com
          Hardware: PC
            Status: NEW
           Version: unspecified
         Component: Packaging
           Product: Tomcat 7

Suggestion for the Windows 32/64 bit installer

In the UI it prompts for the ports to use, it would be nice if it also prompted
for port 8443.

Hopefully I have this posted in the right area.
Marty

Nothing listens on port 8443, so there is no conflict when several instances of
Tomcat are installed with the same value for that port.

The value of "redirectPort" attribute is just a number returned in some server
responses. It could be "-1" in the default server.xml, but I think the current
value is less error prone.

Agreed. We are not going to ship with a self-signed cert. That is insecure.

I do not see a point.

You cannot configure HTTPS support by specifying port number only. You need to
configure an SSL certificate, and that becomes non-trivial.

The reason for the request is when installing a second instance of Tomcat, the
second instance won't start initially when the first instance is running
(changing server.xml takes care of this) As I pointed out it would be a nicety
to have the added port in the UI since you already ask for every port that is
pre-defined except https.
