Open office suite download issue

To Apache staff member.

I attempted to download the open office suite with frustrating results.
Ianaged to download the full setup program, however, when I tried to access
the set up program to install the software I received a time out error
telling me that it could not access the server. Any assistance you can give
in this situation I would much appreciate. I am running a Vista 32mb Acer
aspire laptop.

Sincerely Sean Bigge.

The only site from which we recommend one download is
www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect to SourceForge servers where the files are stored. The selected download will then start in about five seconds, with no further intervention necessary on your part. Typically the download is about 145MB. This can then be installed without any need for further internet access.

Some sites package unwanted add-ons, which may be quite objectionable; these sites often use a small downloader, which in turn may then access the internet to get the contaminated version of OpenOffice. From your description it is likely that you have used such a site. I suggest you delete that download and try the above site for a fresh download.
