[PR] feat(rust): enable rust can build on MacOS and change the arrow link … [incubator-graphar]

SYaoJun opened a new pull request, #857:
URL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-graphar/pull/857

   …path.

   <!--
   Thanks for contributing to GraphAr.
   If this is your first pull request you can find detailed information on [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/apache/graphar/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md)

   The Apache GraphAr (incubating) community has restrictions on the naming of pr title. You can find instructions in
   [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/apache/graphar/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#title) too.
   -->

   As discussions: https://github.com/apache/incubator-graphar/discussions/844

   On macOS, the Rust bindings couldn't find the Arrow path. So I implemented a generic solution that works on both macOS and Ubuntu.

   ### Reason for this PR
   <!--
   Why are you proposing this change? If this is already tracked in an issue, please link to the issue here.
   Explaining clearly why this change is beneficial is important for the reviewers to understand the context.
   -->

   ### What changes are included in this PR?
   <!--
   There is no need to duplicate the description in the issue here but it is sometimes worth providing a summary of the individual changes in this PR.
   -->

   ### Are these changes tested?
   <!--
   We typically require tests for all PRs in order to:
   1. Prevent the code from being accidentally broken by subsequent changes
   2. Serve as another way to document the expected behavior of the code

   If tests are not included in your PR, please explain why (for example, are they covered by existing tests)?
   -->

   ### Are there any user-facing changes?
   <!--
   If there are user-facing changes then we may require documentation to be updated before approving the PR.
   -->

   <!--
   If there are any breaking changes to public APIs, please uncomment the line below and explain which changes are breaking.
   -->
   <!-- **BREAKING CHANGE: <description>** -->

   <!--
   Please uncomment the line below (and provide explanation) if the changes fix either
   (a) a security vulnerability,
   (b) a bug that caused incorrect or invalid data to be produced, or
   (c) a bug that causes a crash (even when the API contract is upheld).
   We use this to highlight fixes to issues that may affect users without their knowledge. For this reason, fixing bugs that cause errors don't count, since those are usually obvious.

   I think this method is somewhat heuristic. Maybe we should try using `pkg-config --variable=prefix arrow`. on my mac:

   For using `pkg-config` crate:
   ```Rust
   pkg_config::get_variable("arrow", "prefix")
   ```

Review Comment:
   The `ARROW_LIB_DIR` environment variable is used to determine the library search path, but there's no corresponding `cargo:rerun-if-env-changed=ARROW_LIB_DIR` directive. This means that if a user changes the `ARROW_LIB_DIR` environment variable, the build script won't be re-executed, potentially causing the build to use stale library paths. Add `println!("cargo:rerun-if-env-changed=ARROW_LIB_DIR");` after line 40 to ensure the build script reruns when this environment variable changes.
   ```suggestion
       }
       println!("cargo:rerun-if-env-changed=ARROW_LIB_DIR");
   ```

Review Comment:
   When `pkg-config` is unavailable or fails to find Arrow, and `ARROW_LIB_DIR` is also not set, the `link_libraries` function proceeds without setting any library search path. This will cause the linker to search only in system default paths, which may fail on systems where Arrow is installed in non-standard locations. Consider adding a warning or informational message when both pkg-config and ARROW_LIB_DIR fallbacks fail, to help users diagnose build issues. For example: `eprintln!("cargo:warning=Could not determine Arrow library directory via pkg-config or ARROW_LIB_DIR. Relying on system default library paths.");`
   ```suggestion
           println!("cargo:rustc-link-search=native={dir}");
       } else {
           eprintln!("cargo:warning=Could not determine Arrow library directory via pkg-config or ARROW_LIB_DIR. Relying on system default library paths.");
   Could you clarify the intended difference between `ARROW_HOME` and `ARROW_LIB_DIR`?
   For my understanding:
   - `ARROW_HOME` is mainly used to set `CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH`
   - `ARROW_LIB_DIR` is mainly used for Rust linker search paths
   If that is correct, would it make sense to centralize Arrow resolution in a helper (e.g., `find_arrow()`), and return both `cmake_prefix` and link_paths.
   2. We should try `env::var("ARROW_LIB_DIR")` first. If it’s not set, then fall back to `pkg-config`. That seems more reasonable.
   Actually, I’m not very familiar with dependency handling, so this is a bit of an immature/personal suggestion.
   Maybe we should rely fully on pkg-config, rather than `ARROW_HOME` and `ARROW_LIB_DIR`, since:
   - Arrow always provides a *.pc file.
   - We can get `CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH` via `pkg-config --variable=prefix arrow` (in Rust: `pkg_config::get_variable("arrow", "prefix")`).
   - We can link Arrow via: `pkg_config::Config::new().statik(true).cargo_metadata(true)`
   If the `*.pc` file isn’t in a standard location (e.g. `/usr/share/pkgconfig`), we can set `PKG_CONFIG_PATH`.
   For example:
   For example, if Arrow is installed at `/opt/arrow` and the `pkgconfig` files are under `/opt/arrow/lib64/pkgconfig`:
   ```bash
   export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/opt/arrow/lib64/pkgconfig:${PKG_CONFIG_PATH}" # set `PKG_CONFIG_PATH`
   pkg-config --variable=prefix arrow
   # output: /opt/arrow
   ```
   Any thoughts?
