What about this for compiling?

Hi all!
I'm a maven user who want's to contribute to the project as many
others (I guess) I've found that it's quite hard to compile maven from
CVS. On many ocassions I've found that it was due to some failing
plugin that the hole build abotrted. I was wondering:
Would it be posssible make the 'defaul' build to compile plugins
in such a way that if one fails, it is not installed, but a log is
adeded to a texttifile maybe. So the user has an (at lease) hallf way
maven installacion and can go and try to fix and install plugins that
failed if he needs them.
Do you think this is logical? would it be the right thing? is it
doable ala maven?
