[DISCUSS] Drop TomEE 8.x docker images?

Hi all,

I just opened a PR to add TomEE 10.0.0-M1 Dockerfiles [1], we're now at
80 different variants of docker images being built for tomee:

$ find . -name Dockerfile | wc -l
80

In the future this number could increase even more when we add docker
images based on Java 21. (Depending on if we continue support for Java
11 [2])

IMO we should drop Dockerfiles for TomEE  8.x, it's EOL and there really
is no need to continue building docker images for it. WDYT?

Thanks

Markus

+1 to drop TomEE 8 Docker images (non-binding)

Note: TomEE docker images are not officially distributed by the project
itself (ASF), so no real decision space from our side, imho.

Given that the voting is going on as we speak, I think that is a good idea.

I will get the current PR merged, then when 9.1.3 is released, I will get that updated and moved to latest.

(my two cents)
wouln't it be better to wait a little bit for 9.1.3 to be released, so
as to avoid releasing a Docker image with high CVEs ?

Re: [DISCUSS] Drop TomEE 8.x docker images?

Posted by Rod Jenkins <ro...@rodandmichelle.com>.
All,

I was looking at the "latest" tag for the official images. The latest tag is pointed to 8.0.16-jre17-Temurim-ubuntu-webprofile.

If we are going to drop TomEE 8, then I would suggest using 9.1.2-jre17-Temurin-ubuntu-webprofile.

Also given Temurin is the default, can we get consensus to drop Semeru? This would make a serious dent in our image count.

Comment please....

Thanks,
Rod.
