This was with Apache Open Office, not LibreOffice. I could find no release date
info on OO v4, but I could find info about LO v4
I was using OO but I have since switched to LO, because LO4.x seems to have
resolved the issue.
I would be happy to test if a fix is found.

The response is not reproducible. Sometimes it works normally. Sometimes I can
open a file an make a few entries before it crashes. sometimes it opens the
files, but the circling waiting symbol never goes away and no entries can be
made. And sometimes it will not open the file at all. In the past, it would act
this way for a few hours and then start working normally, but for the past 4 or
5 days it will not work at all. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling
several times with no effect. I made a guess on the version that I have, but
I'm not sure. How do I determine the version of Open Office that I have?

You can find the version via the menu. Click help->About OpenOffice.org and
find the version information right above the copyright statement.
What operating system are you using?

I am getting this on OO 3.4, on Windows 7 64 bit. I have checked the
environment variables, they seem OK. Am attaching the document that has been

What is the status of OO 4.0? is that LibreOffice 4.0? I would be happy to
test if this is fixed in OO 4.0. I still have this issue and have been using
LibreOffice Portable 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: da8c1e6) which is stable.

example of (recovered aparently) document that is causing this issue.
I was working on this, and did a "save as" after opening Calc. I entered a
whole lot of data and then went to a browser session. whilst not in focus OO
calc crashed. then I restarted Calc. it offered to recover this. I said "yes".
the recovery then asked me to submit a crash report, but this caused another
crash.
I then opened the document form the OS. This loaded OK but then when I tried
typing text in cell A1, it crashed when I pressed <return>

I loaded your file attached and was able to add text, formulas, numbers, etc.,
with no crash.

I loaded the file attached by jetski and was able to add text, formulas,
numbers, etc., with no crash.
It is possible that this crash is not related to editing in Calc at all, but is
a manifestation of the profile-related crash in AOO 3.4.1, which occurs
randomly. That particular bug is fixed for AOO 4.0.
Unless someone can give some steps to reproduce a Calc editing crash, I'll need
to close this report as IRREPRODUCIBLE.
