Rethinking my previous position :) maybe it's really not worth the effort to support Java 6; however I think it would make sense to keep some modules at Java 6 like the bridge or the whiteboard implementation as these can be used in a webapp context; and app servers are pretty famous in not updating that fast to newer java versions
